Since gravity is what makes long gourds long, would increasing the gravity by adding weight to the gourd make it grow longer??

Im no expert as this is going to be my first year growing, but doesn't gravity just keep them from curling up?

I dont think gravity is what makes them long. They get pretty long growing on the ground. But I thought the same thing ,tying a weight to the bottom.lol

Handy, 2013 was my first year growing long gourds and I agree with you that gravity isn't the main factor affecting the length. My 94" long gourd was low on my trellis and there was a big slab directly below the gourd. I had no choice but to get a 2X6 and carefully duct tape it and hope for the best. It grew an additional 24 inches in length almost horizontal to the ground. Like you have said already, long gourds are fun to grow. My goal this year is to grow one over 100 inches. Jim
