Dear All, I would like to know if a LG is admitted in a competition whether with low level of exsiccation or with high level of exsiccation that cause the constriction of the fruit. If you need more informations in order to understand my question, please, see the photos.

From the GPC rule book: 7) Long gourds will crack their outer skin from growth spurts; these cracks will be acceptable for competition. 8) Long gourds will discolor and will show signs of fungus as they dry, these are natural occurrences thus making them acceptable for competition.

Thank you so much, but I have a big doubt. I know rules 7 and 8 but I want to understand if the picture n.2 published on my diary is considered exsiccation process (rule n.8) while the photo n.1 is referred to rule n.6. Thank you in advance.

As a giant vegetable judge, I would accept nr. 1 but not nr. 2. All giant vegetables must be in good health, including LGs. Nr. 1 is natural cracking (not health related), but nr. 2. is definately rotting.

They have been accepting LGs here in North America with tips that were black for all the years that we have been growing giants. They had to be dry though. Any soft & wet spots must be cut off them. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the past WR had a black tip on it. I'm not saying that there was one for sure, I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if there was one.
