Do any of you all cover your LG's at night if the temps are cool and do you think these cool temps in the low 50's and low 60's at night slow down growth with LG's like the pumpkins? The 83.5" '13 DeMars hit 83" yesterday @ 13dap and was wondering if I should have been covering it up at night to increase growth even more. Whats your thoughts please. Thanks

I don't cover mine. They are so much smaller than big pumpkins that I don't think that they would hold in that much heat. Being under the shade of the trellis and vine they can't soak up much sunshine. I got my personal best last year on the last one grown in September, when nights were the coldest. And my garden is in a deep valley where cold air sinks in at night and it gets about 5 degrees colder than the rest of the area. I did have a real thick one around 85" long split wide open on a cold night. I would be tempted to throw a tarp over the whole trellis and put a heat source under it if I had a good one growing and there was a threat of frost.
