over night the tip got soft and brown, will it continue to grow? is there anything I can do? does the growth come at the tip or throughout the entire gourd?

I have one growing on a slant board because it set too close to the ground. I taped it in in several places with black electrical tape and every morning you can see that all but the top end is growing and stretching the tape. And it is curving some in the middle, which shows that the middle is growing. So you still might get some more out of it. If you figure out what causes shriveled tips, let me know what it is. I had some of that on some plants this year too. My thought is that they need more water because it showed up during a 7 week dry spell, but it is an un-tested theory.

they still grow with the sour tip. you lose some inches but gain more inches then you lose

I have noticed that some gourds have rounded tips and some have pointed tips. I never had that problem with the rounded tip gourds but often get it with the pointed tips. I also noticed that those that went bad on the tips seem to have under developed seeds or almost no seed !
