In nature they stay outside. I don't bring them in, but it can make for cold fingers. I'm going to start harvesting seeds in a couple days. Our gourds were done growing in early September.

Does the fact that it was still growing mean the seeds need longer to mature??Any one out there? Just nod if you can hear me??lol

My 118.25 was still growing last year and the seeds ended up being a few nice hard empty shells. Most were immature and soft. I left the in for a month before removal. But I don't know if it was due to poor pollination or harvesting too soon. They can be so hard to germinate at times that it is hard to tell what is best. In your case with such a great gourd, I would be cautious and leave then in a while. It probably wouldn't hurt to keep it wiped down with bleach so it doesn't mold and let it dry. After all, it will be several months before you need to germinate then. Mine have been frosted a few times so this next week I will get cold fingers scooping the seeds out of the goo.

I have always harvested seeds right after the weigh off and have gotten fine results. I have seen as many as 500 good seeds from a long gourd and as little as 4. I am not so sure holding them after the weigh off will help with maturity but it certainly won't hurt. We dried one a few years back and made a cool rain stick and after that we harvested seeds that had a good germination rate.

Yes it doesn't seem letting them sit off the vine would do much . They were young gourds so I will be cautious. I think these seeds from the 138.5 might be a big hit with the growers

Put it in a cool dry area, NOT hot, seeds can germ inside the gourd if temps are to high.
Have a good one guy.

Pulled the seeds out of the 126.5 May today. Good seed count of 454 seeds. Had 60-70 seeds that had germinated in side the gourd

Put mine in the basement, wiping it down with bleach, 2 or three times a week. By next year they will be dried, cut the gourd and or if you want to keep the gourd, drill a 1" hole (bottom, back side) and shake them out.
