Anyone have a pruning system for long gourds or do you just let them grow?

I have always just let them grow. Last year my vines got way to crowded so I lengthened the trellis and cut back from 5 plants to 4. I found that it didn't seem to hurt to let 2 gourds grow at the same time too. One plant had 3 and didn't do as well, so for now on I will try to keep just 2 at a time.

Ha I do Scott... Only trim once they get in the way... But I wait to set a gourd until it's at the top of my trellis . 17 feet or so

I prune also Scott on the basis of growing fruit not salad. Don't know if its the best way but I've got a fast growing lg right now with what Salad I've got. About a 8' x 6'+ canopy.
