What I do is .......As I pollenate the gourd (Just like pumpkins do the pollination yourself) I take a pcs of masking tape and put the date on it and stick it next to the gourd. Now you can compare growth between gourds at lets say day 8 or day 10. this way you can weed out the slower growing gourds and keep the faster growing ones. You might have to write down the measurement to keep them all straight because they wont all be the same age. if you pollenate 1 or 2 a night for a week you will have plenty to choose from .....then its just a matter of keeping some notes and choosing the longest skinniest gourd or 2 and ride them to the end ...hope this helps!
