Hi,
I've seen some people do this and I know that long gourds can be a bit file In choosing between be straight and being a "snake". I am growing on a 8 foot (96 inch) trellis, so I don't have enough length to growing a considerable gourd. If anyone has any techniques to keep the gourd from "snaking" when you tie it to a board please feel free to give advice. Thanks.

I only had success doing that with the gourds that have heavy, fat blossom ends. They don't get as long as the skinny ones. The skinny ones just tend to curl up. I have considered getting a long 4" pvc pipe, having it sawed in half, and then duct taping it back together around the gourd. That way if it bends a little and gets stuck you can remove the tape and get it out. But that is more than I want to spend on a theory. For this year I raised my trellis so I don't have to dig such a deep hole.
