I'm trying a long gourd this year, Should I start them the same time as Ags? for early October weigh-off?

start in june here....the fruit grow for about 30 to 40 days

I would start earlier than that, early May. It's true you will max out in 30-40 days but the plant keeps going until frost. You may get your best set August 15 on a fully developed plant. Try both methods see what happens.

I'm in northeast Ohio, I start my LG's 1st or 2nd week of May, just depends what I have going on. I like to get them in the ground by June 1st, sometimes earlier, depending on the weather. I usually pollinate the last week the last week of July, but I have pollinated the 1st week of August before. My 141.25" last season was pollinated around July 27th.

I start about the same time as pumpkins. Often the second crop of gourds is bigger because the plant is bigger. Unless anthracnose sets in and they turn brown. But they will keep a long time after picking if you wipe them down with weak bleach solution every week or so.
