ok I have 5-105" Lyons growing......need tips on growth....pollination.....length of growing time...type of fertilizer they like...come on, out with a few secrets LOL....please....:0)

lol my gourds are climbing already, about a foot and half tall already, my leafs are huge about 6 inches from side to side

Wayne run them up a trellis atleast 10 feet tall. Give them plenty of sunlight and heat they thrive when its above 90 degrees. They dont need to much care as far as fertilizing goes. Hand pollinate at night. Use something to tie your vine with the long gourd to the trellis. Because if you get a big one it will tear the tendrils and the gourd will touch the ground. Once they touch the ground they get a curve...not good it might cost you 1st place.

I stick 4 pieces of wood lathe around the young plant, and wrap saran wrap around them. This keeps critters from chewing on them, and out of the wind. On extremely cool nights, I cover the whole thing with a tarp. I've also seen that they make long "onion bag" type tubes that could work well in supporting the gourds as they grow.
