its a secret society..Just like trading seeds..Very hard group to get into without the right connections..Which I have not gotten yet..Run them up the trellis they are very low maintainence. Give them a few shots of foliar fertilizer, like you do pumpkins.

make your trellis at least 10 feet tall, would also just grow one per vine.

Here 's the one I was thinking about. These do dound like fun. I had a package of seeds in my hand for a while at the seed bazarre in Niagara. For some fool reason I set them down for something else.

And to think, I might have sneaked into the elusive Secret Society of Long Gourdsmen! Perhaps it's not too late. Does anyone have seeds to share or trade?

Steve, got 20 long gord seeds in the works now. Nothing's germed yet, but it's still early. Will only be planting a few, so depending on success there may be some to be had. Drop me a line if interested. Duff

If you're having trouble getting those gourd seeds to germ., crack them just a little in your teeth, and make sure you soak them in a peroxide solution!

I heard Jill had a 10 foot long gord last year but she didn't want to bring it to a competition and show off. She also said last year was a bad year for long gords and hers was a small one compared to past years.

Oh my goodness...I owe the Good Fairy Gourd Godmother an appology. The dern things will germinate.
My long gords direct seeded and the seed in the germination box have both shown emergence. Folks it took three weeks in both locations. Just put them in with no busted teeth or tricky soaking, in both cases.
I now have four or five excess potted. Anyone serious about these fool gourds may call and come here for them. E me for the telephone number. The stock gourd was at 90".

It only takes 3 to 4 days for emergence when you file and crack the very hard shell.

Linus,
Dubya had the SS (secret service) confiscate ALL seeds from the 10' gourd, that were in possession of the SSLG. I could be killed for telling you this, but Dub is planning on growing them on Mars! No matter what they tell you, Clarence didn't get any of them, but I do think Quinn got one or two!
