Hi all,
I was wondering if there's any compelling reason to not grow tomatoes along the edge of the pumpkin patch? It seems like the perfect location to grow them but I'm concerned about disease. Anything to worry about?
Thanks in advance for any advice and best of luck to you all! Brian

If they are not going to get in the way of hoses. I see no reason not. Include them in with your fertilization schedule and they will repay you for it....The real question is what kind are you going to plant.

Thanks for the info Shannon. I started a few Big Zac's, Burpees Delicious, and Better Boy's about a month ago and they're growing like weeds right now. If there's nothing to worry about when it comes to disease, they'll definitely be out in the patch getting the same treatment as the pumpkins.

Brian The only problem is when you water. Tomato's don't like their leaves to get wet. If you overhead water it may slow your tomato plants a bit. Tomato's like to get watered at the root zone only. I grew both in a greenhouse last year and never had a problem. eddy

Hey Eddy, thanks for the advice. I don't use any overhead watering so hopefully they'll be OK. Can't wait to try for a big one. Good luck this season! Brian

Two other things to think about are the types of insecticides and fungicides you are planning on using. Many systemic products used in the AG patch are not fit for use on edible crops. Be careful not to poison yourself!
