Just curious, When do most of you start your Tomatoes and other garden vegetables indoors for transplant outdoors later in May?

I'm zone 6 here. I start my maters March 15th. Set them out May 15th. Last year was too cool for that schedule without protection. So they waited until May 25th.

Hi Dave, I'm zone 5 here and will be starting my tomatoes April 1st to put out the week of May 21st. I may start a few two weeks earlier to try and get a few early tomatoes. I will be using Silvery Fir Tree and Stupice for this. Ted

How large are you plants normally when you put them out? flowering stages?

Maybe 8" tall, no flowers. I repot them burying them to the bottom of the top crown of leaves at one month. Then do the same thing when transplanting outdoors (removing leaves from the stem area to be buried of course.)

Middle of March (in Connecticut). I try to get them in the ground in early May. I also plant them deep and then cover them with a 1 gal water container (with the bottm cut off and the cap removed) this give good protection from frost and cut worms. It's like a mini cold frame over each plant.
