HI i am planing on starting tomato seeds march 15 and transplant may 30. How tall do you think the plants will be by then under fake lights? But one small problem is i do not no if stores will be selling seeds in that time of year. I was wondering if anyone has extra tomato seeds that they have saved from tomatos before. I only like to grow big tomatos. So thank you if you have any extra seeds please e mail me

There will be plenty of seeds available from all sorts of locations starting in early February, maybe sooner. As soon as the big "all-everything" stores clean up their Christmas stuff, much of that space goes back to "lawn and garden". Your timetable is about right... tomatoes can be left indoors much longer than pumpkins, up to 8 weeks. A good grow light is essential. At the time you set them out they'll be five to eight inches tall hopefully, and you can bury them deep.

I should say, we start ours in Feb and put them out first or second week of April. To do that, we must use "wall-of-waters" to protect the plants at that time of year. Usually we see some snow on the plants, but they are fine in the wall-of-water.
Look at: http://cliffwarren.byethost5.com/2006/april/index.html
Look at the entry for April 17.

Eric, I have a lot of good tomato seeds available to anyone who wants some. I have mostly beefsteak varieties, but some others as well. I will shoot you an email this week, or feel free to ask for some you are interested in. Ted
