what tomatoes are on the minds of everone to grow this year, im sure phils monster is on the top if your one of the lucky ones to get a seed, 7.18 Harps monster is always in there, what else is going to start growing? i made some crosses this yr i will try a few of each, lets here some plans, they may help some of the new growers this yr,also maybe some mistakes we made and how we are going to fix it this coming yr, it may help a new grower skip a mistake, MY biggest was staking the plants,my plants got so big and thick they were breaking my wooden steaks or bending them down, i had cords running everywere trying to hold these plants up, this yr ea plant will have a T post drove in the grount and a 7 ft 2x2 tied to it, they wont break that, wood side to the plant,i dont like the metal against the plants. GOD BLESS, TREETOP

Don't get those wimpy U posts, go get real steel fence posts at the farm/feed/supply then sink them in decently when you plant out. Think structural steel :) I have learned this in our wind! It's hard to imagine 6" of tomato plant turning into 11' and quite a few pounds in under 3 months...
Thanks everyone, our tomato section of the Friday Auction was well received! Should make some choices easier out there...

Oh you can go to plumbing supply and get these foam pipe covers, get one big enough to cover your steel fencepost and use a little duct tape. They also work good on pumpkin lifting ring straps for padding.

Put the 'used feed' in after it's been well composted, and even then, in the fall like you do for pumpkins. You can burn tomatoes with nitrogen too!
When that plant starts putting on fruit, it really does need some help... even one can take that plant right over, and if the fruit touches ground it's gonna rot (and bugs and slugs will EAT it)
