i used to start all my own veggie plants especially peppers-tomatoes- egg plant.
im thinking this year about ordering plants from one of my many catalogs received this winter.

have any of you ordered the above veggie plants before and what was your opinion. arrive in good shape?

pap, I tried it once, and went back to starting my own!!! Sorta(LOL, a LOT) beat up when they arrive!!! Matt D. is good at sendin plants, but the big box stores, of plant sales...don't seem to care as much as Matt does!!! Duh? Peace, Wayne

My neighbor did it.I thought the plants looked bad,I would go to local greenhouse & hand pick the healthiest they have.I bought a lemon tree on line,its not what I would have picked in person.luckily my Golden retrevier trashed it,it grew back great what I wanted, Bushy tree.LOL

I did it once and plants were bad. Company sent more and they came in bad shape as well. Best to buy local.

pap eggplant and hot peppers i go to my local store and hand pick them its easier lol but i like starting my tomatos my self but always end up buying some from market that i cant resisit exspecially when there a dollar a plant sometime 50 cents lol,ive orderd ebay and had good results but i think nurserys are better to order from !!!
i think they have better plants hope that helps pizza

If you can get from a local source that does not handle wholesale provided plants... last two years a lot of the late blight came through BONNIE from the US south, a wholesaler distributor. At least a place that starts theirs locally.

Start your own and you will be the best off. If you were closer I could provide tomato and pepper; I tried mailing some tomatoes last year and results were not good.

Pap, This is were I got mine last year. Sorry but they are local for me so I don't have the experience of the condition of the plants when shipped. But there plants are above averege plants. I always started my own because of limited varieties from garden centers. Bonnies plants are the major suppliers so everybody has the same thing. But this year I wiil order from them online and they email me when they are ready and I pick them up. I can even pick my plants if they are not to busy. They ship priority which I think its all in how they are packed for some rough shipping. I would email ask. Good luck

I bought my seeds last year and this year from www.reimerseeds.com,I was very happy with the outcome. They have the largest variety of seeds i have seen and they also have paypal. Give them a shot Pap

I'm going to try a few plants from chileplants.com I had a hard time germinating the Ghost Chile last year..They have all kinds of plants you can't get, versus seed you dont want to fool with ..

Pap, i have found that the small nurseries sometimes have amazing plants. great prices, varities healthy plants.

Check around your local nursery u may be supprised.

Seeds: Reimer, Victory Seeds (seedsavers and heirloom), Tomatobob's... if you're a glutton, Hazzard's Seeds (wholesale quantities, they sell to anyone though)

Burpee has the Black Pearl, an excellent cherry tomato that has dark shoulder, can megabloom, and can also take over the world.

Pap, my local nursery is 2 miles away from my house, been buying there for 10+ years, no problems, great veggies.

My experience with catalogue shipping live plants has also been real bad.

Darrel Jones in Alabama is the best at shipping tomato plants that I know of. I have ordered from him 2 or 3 times and the plants have always arrived in great shape. He's not cheap, but he has the best selection of plants and his packaging is A+. He ships the plants while they are young and you'll need to harden them off before transplanting outside.
