I'm brand new to this site. I plant to grow at least 5 pounders next year. I have found that if you can grow large tomatoes, you can grow about anything. I have 5 raised gardens around the house in North Texas. There is a lot of advice and ideas on the web. I found out last year that it takes the right seeds, the right soil and the right techniques. Growing them below squash plants works too. Kip

Welcome to All Things Red N Heavy... Kip.

If you are growing nice big ones off generic seeds/plants, then you are poised for greatness. First suggestion I have though is to get a copy of Marv Meisner's 'Giant Tomatoes' book, it has a lot of good info. And someone will connect with you for some good seeds.

Up here in end of OK panhandle we have a real tomato weighoff every year, 2011 first prize was $500. (2012 TBD) Bad thing is you have to bring the tomato TO our weighoff and present it (going to be 12 Sept 2012), we are not a virtual WO. Something to shoot for....

I have a few seeds of the Big zac left. Do you think they will germinate. The seeds from the tomatoes we had were drying one a window ledge when someone threw them out cleaning the house--grrrr
