I just heard that young Joe Hallam has broken the World Record for the highest number of Tomatoes on one truss. A staggering 185 which beats the old record by 64. Apparently it took three hours to count them!
Way to go Joe.

Sweet One Million fired up and grown good will triple that record. ]:o) And by Gad you will need two days to count 'em. I should think 1000 on one plant would be a decent achieved goal with a little luck.

Yep, something has to be wrong on the info. Not with the number -is awesome to find 185 tomatoes in one truss (Hey Doc and Ben: not in the plant)- but with the time. In fact, last year I harvested from one local squash variety plant (close to butternut) 100 fruits (2 lbs average)... And I can assure you that it didn't take me 3 hours to count them. Thinking now how I did it, it could be about 1.5 and 2 minutes to count them. I also use to count my garlics and onions just after harvest them and last time it took me 2-3 min maximum to count 170 onions on the ground.
What happened with those tomatoes??????????? Why were they so hard to count??????????????

I'll wager it took so long because officials had to certify the results. Heck we ate more than that at Dave Garrell's patch while on the Spy Tour & we weren't there for 30 minutes!

Hey Guys, What Mark never said about the new record was the fact that it was grown by a 12 year old lad. I know him very well, I met him through growing pumpkins of course. We are talking a truss of tomatoes and not total plant.

I'm just guessing but I think a truss is just one of the branches on a plant. That is just my guess, never heard of it myself.....Flora

Thats a pretty good description Flora. The variety is his own breeding and not available commercially (Yet)He's calling it "Hallams Halo" it is a medium to large type and not a cherry. Each Tomato would have to be checked for condition they may even have counted them whilst still on the truss.
