On top of Brush Mountain, Pa.

The weather here is killing me. Plants are growing but not many blossoms compared to other years. It has been either too hot or too wet. I spray with antifungals and almost immediately it rains. We had 2 inches the day before yesterday. My hand pollinated tomatoes are not taking. My enthusiasm is waning. Maybe next year I will just grow a field of sunflowers and take a year off. How are you guys feeling? Happy? Satisfied? Depressed? Tired. This is a mood check.

Hi Marv!!!

It's me Optimistic PA_J!! LOL!!

I have nine tomatoes growing thus far along with a 5 fused blossom that has set.

I have my larger more mature growing tomatoes shaded by white wash cloths.

Despite the intense heat and humidity I hold a rather enthusiastic mood.

It's really only early July and there is still much time to have a potential giant growing!! :O)

Weather has been really wet, windy and cold but now it turned very hot and dry. The next 8 days : 30°C to 32°C
Thanks I m growing all tomatoes under a polytunnel, so everything has been protected. I m satisfied for the moment, all plants look good and there are dozens of megablooms of different sizes. Do not depressed, there 's still plenty of time to grow a big specimen, keep working hard and best of luck !

Last time I could get in the garden I saw several mega blooms. Then the monsoon set in. So I am not sure what I have but all my plants are still upright. I added a pretty good amount of rabbit manure in the planting holes with all the rain I am glad I did, they are still looking green. I just hope the blooms I had are getting pollinated.

I'm with MARV......except add miserable to the waning enthusiasm ...I'm just hoping to pull a decent BLT sandwich or two this year.... .(I'd still rather watch crappy plants grow than none at all)....good luck everyone...it's still early.................right?

im very excited about my plants that i have in my greenhouse.3 5.5 marv's and one 5.07 boudyo,they are looking really good!i have mega's set on all but one 5.5.im new to growing tomatos tho.if i get a 3 pounder id be happy.of course bigger is better.i hope the 5.5's tomatos grow as good as the plant...wow!

My 5.5 Mega Marv is looking good.I havent found a mega blossum yet,but the ones Im seeing (Early on)are decent size.We have been lucky,not to much rain here.A little cloudy though.Im just happy its not 8 thousand degrees out.Dang! I hate the heat(over 85).lol I'm optimistic.I think it will be a great Year!

i will agree to the notion that it is still pretty early. lowest truss tomatoes just getting past pea size. lots of plant growth and more megas coming on. almost all of my plants have thrown at least one nice megabloom by now. patiently growing on lower trusses waiting for the chosen ones in the coming weeks.

Very Hot (90+F) and Dry here in Massachusetts for the last 7 days.. My 4 Mega Marv Giants are loving it. I'm picking off lots of little tomatoes now. In a few weeks hopefully I'll start keeping them.

I'm still burying vines and will not even be worrying much about trying to pollinate blossoms for a couple more weeks. I've learned that where I live, it's extremely difficult to get any tomato blossoms to set fruit this time of year, let along megablooms.

We've had at least 6 record high temps (104° or higher) in the past couple of weeks. Not as hot as southern Arizona, say, but hot enough that I'm just trying to get the plants to survive until conditions get better.

Besides, in this hot weather (Expecting at least 30 days of 95° plus temps during the summer), tomatoes ripen from fruit set in 36 to 42 days. Doesn't matter what I do, I cannot get a really big tomato when they ripen that quickly.

From experience, I expect my largest tomatoes after October 15th.

Discouraged only because I don't have time to do all that ought to be done.
