The weigh off for my tomato is October 5th. When should I pollinate for that weigh off. I want atleast a 5 pounder. Do giant tomatoes have a tendency to get blossom end rot? Do they need extra calcium in the growing season?

Everyone growing giants wants a five pounder Roadrunner. LOL!!
If your target date for a weigh off date is early October then ideally for most strains of plants with the capability of growing giants your pollination date would be mid August to the last week of that month.
For sake of a speedy answer I am going to send you to this website concerning Blossom End Rot; http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/hil/hil-28-d.html
To reduce blossom-end rot in tomato, implement those steps.
If you are extremely new at growing for giants it would greatly behoove you to purchase the bible of growing giant tomatoes written by Dr. Marvin Meisner which is available here; www.amazon.com/Giant-Tomatoes-Marvin-H-Meisner/dp/0975515314
If you apply what Dr. Meisner has written, you will be well on your way to a successful growing season. I cannot emphasize the importance of this book enough to you.
The season is moving rapidly and if you are indeed as wet behind the ears as I think you are at this time it would greatly benefit you to get Marv's book and plan your 2014 giant growing season.
Everyone was new once, this is my second year of growing giants.
I hope this helps you.
