Depends if you want maters for fall weigh-offs or not.
I like to stagger my maters over the coarse of 3 weeks. starting end of April first week of May and second week of May.
With the virtual early weigh-offs now, It really makes it easier as far as timing goes

Last season I had all my plants in the ground on May 6th.
I'm in Zone 6-B in Allentown, PA.

I had to worry about possible frost once.
Sadly their are no physical weigh offs close to my location for tomatoes.

My heavy weights are certified then entered in the GPC contest.

Last season I started my seeds on March 23rd. I don't see any reason to change that time frame for my geographic location and my growing plans.

I would suggest starting your seeds 6 weeks before the last frost date. For you around April 1.

I usually plan on planting out around May 10th so that puts me end of March starting seeds. A good way to stagger your tomatoes is use suckers off the first round of plants to start your second round. Save some of those high dollar seeds for next season.

If I had one plant that I really wanted to grow, I'd start it soon so it's big enough to harvest cuttings/clones from all season!

Last year i started mine april 10th and the last tomato was
harvested around september 1st.if you want one for a weighoff
I would start them the 1st of may.but its always nice to have somthing
to weigh late summer,so i would stagger the start date's.

I used to try to time mine for fall weigh offs, but it is my personal opinion that you need the heat of July to help the fruit grow bigger. All of my biggest tomatoes have been started between the middle to the end of April. That is just me though.

Like John-D-Farmer said with the virtual early weigh offs things are much easier these days.
