I don't remember seeing so many people growing giant tomatoes in past years. Maybe I ought to give it a try next year?

Tomatoes will be going in here next year Jordan. I guess that they are just a lot easier to grow than other fruit on this site,,,, and there is that 8 pound thing going on.

They are really fun to grow and I am glad I did. They aren't a terrible amount of work. I did grow a 4.34 this year and like anything learned a lot. I have new motivation to do a better job next year. Still hoping to get to the 5 pound mark this year now that I made my goal of 4 pounds. If you are thinking about trying it I would recommend it.

A great deal of fun and frustration, just like all the other giants! This is my first year and there is definatley a learning curve! Have grown LG's and AG's for several years. They are all fun and exciting.

Last year I grew my 4.46 Big Zac. This season turned out not as good. With me being the cause of a loss of my most promising tomato of the season by snapping the stem. I ended up with three tomatoes over four pounds. Since I didn't grow a personal best this season I didn't feel it was necessary to have them officially weighed for the GPC.

This doesn't mean I didn't have a ton of fun because I LOVE GIANT TOMATO GROWING!!!!!

Now that I have my sophomore year blues out of the way, next season will be a banner one for me!!:O)

I agree with those above but look at it this way you don't need a skid loader to lift them or a truck/trailer to haul them and you don't need to call a lifting crew for every weighoff. Also can weight them when they are ready to reduce those sleepless nights.

Giant tomato growing has nowhere to go but up. One of the advantages is that you can actually eat your losers. Think about that. Also you can go on vacation for a week without a lot of major concern about what is happening in the garden. Tomatoes can pretty much take care of themselves for a week if you prepare them for your absence. But, just like pumpkins, the weather factor is there as are the diseases and the insects. Pumpkins have their vine borer and tomatoes have their late blight. And on it goes......

Weighing early tomato the day the ripen on a certified scale is a really nice bonus also.

I love giant tomato growing. I have 8 plants and all have produced megablooms. Two plants had monster megablooms. Hoping one will be at least 5lbs but still a long way to go and we need more sunny days.
