With a new world record broken, we often look to the next benchmark to set our sights on. After the tomato record was shattered last year at 8.41 pounds, a lofty but achievable next step is now in sight – the 10 pound tomato. We believe that it is just a matter of time until that barrier is broken, and that time may come soon.

To that end, Maple Craft Construction has once again stepped up to put a nice bounty on the first one to break that barrier. Effective immediately, there is a $1,500 bounty on the first 10 pounder. Each year that the 10 pound barrier is not broken, another $250 will be added to the pot, and will max out at a total of $3,000.

Eligibility and Stipulations:
-    Must be an official GPC sanctioned and registered fruit
-    Prize will go to the first fruit over 10 pounds, regardless of whether heavier tomatoes are weighed later in the same year
-    Prize money will be paid to the grower at the GPC convention the following spring
-    If the grower chooses not to attend the convention, the total purse will be reduced to $1,000 regardless of the year it is won

We hope this will get the tomato community as excited as we are to see a major record broken!

wait..gpc convention?..or the big show in the UK?..if so I would need to get new luggage...i better start my seeds
