Will below 45 efect tomato plants that have already been planted in the ground. Will they be stunted or could it cause a loss of yield this summer. Been cool yesterday and today. Temp right now I 39 but wil warm up to 47 then bqck down to 45 last nights low was 36.

Regular maters?.. The cold will stunt them but harvest should be fine..if goin for bigins...or one BIGGIN, I would want any kind of interruption of growth...

Captain,
Night time temperatures that are above 32F will halt the growth of a tomato plant. Damage will not occur as long as thee temperature is above 32F. Many strains of tomato plants have been known to survive an overnight low of 30F but at that stage damage most likely will occur.
If your overnight lowest temperature was 36F you are safe, if you drop any further I would pay close attention.
In the 2013 season I dealt with three consecutive nights of temperatures hovering at 33F without covering.
The plants were just fine as it warmed to the mid eighties during the heat of the day.
I hope this helps you.
