If you are topping off your plants below 3 feet and just above the first cluster, be sure you wait until you are certain a tomato has actually set. You need to see a small actually enlarging tomato before making the cut. Make sure it is growing. If you fail at the first cluster there always is the second one.

Yes!! Each season as hard as I try I will always have aborts on my mega blooms.
Just because you have a mega bloom set doesn't mean it's going to increase in size.
As a rule of thumb I always watch what I think was a successful bloom set for at least seven days before I prune anything off the plant.

Good point marv, i sometimes wont to jump the gun and start pruning right away, and their is no hurry to prune to fast. Its best to wait and be sure that it has taken before you start pruning.
