I use a peat pot filled with seed starting soil. I poke a hole about 1/4 " deep with the eraser on the end of a pencil. I drop the seed into the hole. I fill the hole with vermiculite and pour water over it. I put the pot in a germination chamber set at 80 degrees. After about 3 -4 days the seed has germinated.

I use 72 cell trays here but anything works. Yogurt cups... if looking for ideas. Probably never a good idea to water so heavy that water would come out... so holes arent even necessary just be careful on the watering.

Some peat mixes hold a little too much water for a tomato plant... Not a big deal usually, but it can happen.

I usually pop them between cotton pads, soaked (and squeezed) in a weak seaweed solution and germinated in the warm airing cupboard. As soon as germinated, sown into 9cm pot. Compost, myco, vermiculite mix - watered in with some seaweed extract in water. Keep pot warm and provide lots of light

I am a minimalist. I soak the seeds for about 8 hours in RO water. I then move them to a paper towel that is wet...but squeezed just as hard as I can...in a plastic bag until the seed sprouts. From that point I move them to a pot. Currently I have about 200 3/4 gallon pots. I fill these pots with indoor grow mixture. I have had the best success with Fox Farm Happy Frog (Ocean Forest seems too hot). I run about 95% successful germination. I have found that the small peat pots are really hard to maintain proper moisture levels...much better results with indoor soil. My hydroponic plants are a completely different technique.

I use a bedding of starter peat soil and cover with vermiculite.
