As everyone is aware the 10 pound barrier has been broken. Congratulations Dan on your huge achievement.
As I am being inundated with questions on the prize, I will offer up this following statement:
I was aware of the tomato and in fact possibly another one or two to come. I was not involved in its weighing as it was apparently all done virtually.
As I understand it, Dan was not after the money and infact as I have heard from a few GPC members, Dan has declined the Guinness world record status.
As of this time, this fruit does not qualify for the money and therefore it is still available.
We will be updated the rules again in the next week or so to deal with the Covid issue also So if you have a contender, please let me know.

Thanks for the update Eddy. I’ll definitely make sure I don’t virtually weigh my tomatoes, especially when I grow them that heavy. With all the heightened controversy in the world...we cannot escape it. Even with growing and weighing of a tomato.

Here are the rules G. kins It's all black and white
The 10 pound challenge is a spinoff of the new world record we did in the past. The reason behind this challenge is to better our hobby, plain and simple and to maintain this train of thought; we are being forced to set up a few rules that will need to be adhered to. 1)If and when you feel you have a contender, you will be required to notify myself or a GPC rep for your area at least 3 weeks prior to weighing your fruit. 2)You will need at least one rep of our choice to accompany you when the fruit is weighed and to document the event. 3)You will need to disclose the seed and your growing practices along with a full presentation at the upcoming GPC convention for the year you achieve this milestone 4)You will also be require to relinquish at least 25% of the seeds to be used by all clubs and the GPC . This can and should be done immediately after the weighing of the fruit. 5)You must agree to a 1 year moratorium for directly selling seeds to the public or until the last club auction of that year. 6)The prize money will be offered to the first person to break the 10 pound barrier. If the grower does not adhere to the rules or opts out, then and only then will a second 10 pound fruit be considered. 7)There is and will only be one winner

Rule 1 was not adhered too as notice only came on Sunday to the GPC Rule 2 was also not adhered to as I never was given the opportunity to have someone present.
We need not go any further

Well good on Dan Sutherland for beating to his own drum I guess. Will be a pretty strange experience for anyone who may "win" the 10 lb prize because they followed the rules tho.

Rule number 4 does two things. First by opening and dissecting the tomato there will be absolute certainty that the tomato is actually one fused tomato rather than several tomatoes that have grown together. Sort of an autopsy. Second, there will be certainty to all growers who receive the seeds from the GPC sales, that they, in fact, came from the world record tomato. In other words, the seeds would be certified and sold in a sealed packet that said so. I can recall when Larry Checkon grew a world record pumpkin and there were no seeds in it and yet seeds from that pumpkin were later being sold on Ebay.
