The search for the Holy Grail goes on. A few have found it or at least came close, Steve Strickler (Porkchop) and Dan Sutherland (Buidcuitridge). At first it was thought to be Big Zac the hybrid and then Big Zac stabilized. And then came Domingo. All agree that it takes a big blossom to get a big tomato, a really big tomato. I can not see the path to a real giant without at least a blossom made up of four or more blossoms fused together. Look at the pictures of the real giants if you are a disbeliever. Every trick in the books will not help without that special blossom. How will it be found? Well Domingo was a step in the right direction. But, there has to be more. Maybe it will be a new cross between some of what we already have? Maybe it will be some nutrient we are missing? Maybe it will be some variety of tomato we have not yet discovered? Maybe it will be a new growing technique to create megablossoms? Maybe it will be some hormone we have not yet found? Auxins, gibberellic acid or something else? Maybe we need a mutation? Without that big blossom a grower might as well go home. Nothing known will overcome that limiting factor. And so goes the quest.

If I thought singing would help me get better blossoms I would be out the in the near 90 degree heat doing it. Is one song better than another? Would Willie Nelson's "On the road again" help? And thanks for "Could be all those things." That really helped.

The Hormone route might be a good one to try...but application has to be scientific, on when you sprayed, the ppm of the hormones,/mixes, and any pruning that was done as well...there is some studies out there on Mixes of two hormones, ...one that makes roots grow, and one that causes apical growth..but timing and location of spray matters...I went that route ... difficult, but one I used the most was Cytokinin/Gibberellin

Marv do you read other people's diarys ? garden rebel constantly gets the monster megabloom and Hayden has been growing a monster for 3 weeks now and i have seen several others that have nice megablooms going now also. You seem to be fixed on porkchop and his flowers. he grew his 9.65 on a large double or triple and his frank the tank on a large double !!! His flowers were not unusually large, its just porkchop is dialed in with his growing techniques and can probably grow a single flower to 5 pounds. Also watch for mark clementz now He just showed me a nice megabloom tomato on a Domingo plant witch i think could 6 lb and more. I think im noticing that some people are now starting to see more megablooms on their Domingo plant now with their plants getting bigger so be patient Domingo plants do grow different than bigzac i think Domingos do better in the late season compaired to other verieties.

I’ll agree with Chris, Domingo does well in the late season but pollination has to occur during quite warm weather. I think MegaZac is similar. The real Strickler, ha!

I don't read the diarys and it is because most of the stuff there is about pumpkins, not tomatoes. I don't want to look at pumpkin pictures. Maybe there should be a separate diary for tomatoes?

Thanks for the list. I will check them out. Hmmm. I wasn't on the list. This year is the first time I have tried doing a diary. Honorable Mention?? Maybe?
