I have not gone yet but the only tomatoes I have grown so far in the bucket died from BER. I see lots of people putting sulfur on their BER but it doesn't look like it works. What is the standeard treatment for BER? I imagine more people besides me trying to grow in a bucket are getting hit by it.

One theory on what causes BER is the plant going from wet to dry to quickly and of course growing in a 5 gallon bucket that will happen fast and often !!!

I used some messed up genetics and I am at about 10 oz... only off by the unit of measurement. I wonder if anyone did a hydro plant.

Even in 20 gal buckets ammended with calcium and no big surges of water ...(well, minus 1 actual drench) I had BER bigtime. Just so many factors. Try try again.

I had a baseball sized one going in a bucket with holes drilled in it. Thought I’d get fancy and dunk it halfway up the bucket in water to soak it up. Sure enough, 12 hours later BER. I really let it dry out now and the BER is drying up and scabbing over. So I’m a believer that t too much water at once as a cause of BER.

There must be a target % calcium in the water where BER would not occur. Probably the drier the soil, the higher the calcium has to be in the water?

Did anyone consider burying the bucket in the ground? This would help control heat, but also prevent the soil from drying out too quickly.

I have a healthy one on a 5.3 McCoy. Changed to CalMag and azomite which seems to be good. Have been consistent with water. Adding Companion Biological Fungicide.
