silly question: I wouldn't think which tomato from a plant you save the seeds from would matter but I thought I would ask the experts. Does it matter???? I have a plant that I don't know what kind it is, but is going crazy. I only had blooms on it from the end of June to the end of July so the plant is only waist high but I have already picked 3 over 2 pounds and I know there is another one. Picked so many over 1.5 pounds. I haven't hardly done anything to it. My guess is it is getting some fertilizer overspray from the pumpkins.

The size of the fruit that the seeds come from wont affect the genetics by any means that I know of so then it's really just a question of where your pollen might have been coming from.

So the questions I'd consider would be, how many other tomato plants are growing nearby and how much bee activity have you seen through the season? Because last year I had a lot of bee activity on a row of cherry tomatoes. This was mostly mid-season. And I think they cross pollinated quite a bit. For me, the earliest blooms may have been less bee-pollinated and therefore more likely to be x self and true to the parent plant. That's the only concern I can think of.

thanks - that is what I wanted to hear. My wife tossed the napkin I had the seeds from the 2 lb 6 oz one but there are a couple more 2 lb+ on that same plant I will get seeds from. All the tomatoes I grew were from the same seeds and I tried to hit most of the flowers with the vibrating tooth brush so most of the tomatoes should be selfed.
