I have spent the last several weeks....or has it been months...wait, whats my name again....Chasing down the genetics of the top tomatoes. So far I have done the top 32.

(The mind blowing part) ALL!! but 1 come from just two tomatoes. That is crazy to me. I was not expecting that result.
2.48 Lovelace 2011
5.58 Timm 2008

While researching I came across a great quote from marv

"We must not lose the history of these seeds. Parentage will be important. Some growers don't seem to understand that good records are of value.
Where would we be in the pumpkin world if good seed records were not kept?
I fear the heritage of some of the tomato seeds has already been lost due to people
naming the seeds after themselves without good records of where they came from."

i can see why your mind is blown. Looking at the 'records' , i was curious about your statement of two. I think of a few more 'seed' tomatoes.

what were the start tomatoes of -Delicious, Big Zac, MegaMarv, Domingo all of these should be in the top 32

Further down the list should have-Brutus Magnum, Russian Ox Heart, Micheals Portuguese Monster....and others

Lets go a little further back !!!

My understanding is that full genealogy is:

Big Zac (8.41 MacCoy 2014)(4.57 MacCoy 2013)(5.07 Boudyo 2010)(5.41 Harp 2009)(5.58 Timm 2008)(3.9 Catapano 2007)(4.59 Lyons 2006)(Big Zac F1 Commercial)

Please correct if anyone knows different.

somewhat interesting
2010-Delicious line was top of the tomato world 7.33 Hunt 2010 and Gordon Graham still holding the world record

2010-Big Zac the future WR holder 5.07 Boudyo 2010

2010-Domingo, mostly unknown for most 3.5 King 2010

Ya I stopped at 5.58 Timm because nothing else split off from any of the older tomatoes in that line so far.

Ya the Strickler goes back to one of the two tomatoes. I'm working on a way to put this info on all these tomatoes in a nice tree graph or something.

I know that the strickler goes back to one of the two tomatoes..but 1/2 its genetics comes from a tomato that is different from those two. What is the cut-off weight for the 32?

If I counted right. I just went down the list of the top 500 maters on the genetics site

the 7.27 wiesli brings back memories to me. Early in my tomato growing career, I tried to collect a seed from the top (50?) tomatoes ever weighed. Gordon's was obviously impossible, some of the rest were very difficult. I did find a 7.33 Hunt 2010 and a 7.18 Harp 2009. I still might have a couple of 2009 Harp seeds. Wiesli was one I could not find. Porkchop did send me a seed from a tomato he grew from the Wiesli. That plant showed initial promise to me.
