I dont why but it seems more unappetizing than GMO corn, soy, or wheat, (all of which seem to benefit someone's profit margins more than the consumer.)

It might be good. I dont think the GMOs that help glyphosate to enter the food supply are good... if you read the article they talk about adding genes from a snapdragon flower. Whether thats good or bad, I do not know. To date, imho GMOs have been better for Big Agriculture than the end consumer.

The idea of willingly planting something gmo in my garden still seems too foreign to an old fart like me, but I know that younger generations will probably embrace it and may ultimately benefit from it.

We have been doing genetic modifications for thousands of years through selective breeding. I know the tools we have now can fast track things. As with any new tool it can be used for good or bad. There are some amazing things that have come out of genetic modifications. One that I have looked at pretty extensively is the blight resistance potatoes. They require much much less chemical pesticides. How was this done? They took a gene from a wild blight resistance potato and inserted it into a regular domesticated potato. The same thing probably could of been done with breeding. (Shrug)

Its ok to be pro-GMO, but at some point, maybe when Saruman starts making Orcs with it, you'll probably have to say "no thanks." Well, whatever. The point is, for better or worse, GMO tomatoes are close on the horizon.

lol GMO orcs GMOO :) Im not sure I'm really pro-gmo. I can see the potential for abuse or problems. When it first started becoming a catch word and people stated polarizing on each side, I starting doing my research and seeing exactly what they were doing. I really didn't know what GMO was. I read the research and scientific papers etc. I view it as a tool that can be used for good or bad. You can kill someone with a claw hammer but you can also build a house with it. For me it is a case by case basis. I'll eat GMO potatoes where they put a gene in to make it blight resistant (less pesticides). Will I eat a bright pink glo-in-the-dark pineapple....probably not for a few years until I see how it reacts to others. :)
