my plant is finally starting to grow at 2 feet yeehaaw lol even got a side vine comeing off cant decide weather to prune or let it go dont want to stress plant now that ist is growing pizza

Hey Pizza don't trim the sides that is where you will see your first females . the first females will show up about 3 ft out frome the stump on a side vine usually at the first leaf node. It is rare to get a female on 1 of the main vines. I'm still looking...

glad i listened to u guys i got 2 side vines now and a mian vine at 3 feet 2 side vines have flowers but most are males all open today will look tommorow for a female pizza

PP just looked at your diary. Don't be offended but I don't think I would cover the vines on lopes. Keep guiding with sticks. They rot relatively easily and I've only seen 1 very small set of roots at a node. The females will show up on the side vines that run off of the first three or four mains/sub-mains that start to run.

is it bad to mulch and let them grow over the mulch ??? im trying to keep from weeding and make it look some what nice at my condo lol or is plastic better ???

I used some fine landscape mulch under 7-8 plants last year. Worked fine. This year I'm growing on plastic which I also did last year on a few more.

I stay away from plastic use fabric if you must,double it so weeds dont grow under,1 layer lets lite in,it was desighned to be covered with something!I decided not to use fabric everywhere it can scroch leaves,thats what Ive been told from a BIG Melon grower!Once plant covers area weeds should slow down with no sun!!Im not afraid of weeding,if I was I would Golf for a hobby!!lol
