OK I have a question for everyone. I was wondering what was the largest cantaloupe ever grew for world record status. Cause last year in 2015 season I've reportedly grew a cantaloupe that weighed over 84 pounds. And before I harvested it(although still growing green color on rind) it was stolen from my garden and I found out that college kids stolen my cantaloupe. I've reported it but it had lack of evidence from the pd. Anyways wasn't the cantaloupe from Guinness records reported that it weighed in the seventies pounds range. Thank you. And I did email Guinness and they told me to try again next time.

What seed grew your 84lber? What were the measurements? If it was that big it had to be a monster.

I reportedly grew a 1,500 pound pumpkin once but when I got it to the scale, it weighed about 800 pounds....lol

Well I got my seeds from Lloyd brights website and when I lifted the cantaloupe up it was pretty heavy and I was going to pick it up the next day and bam it was gone. I've measured it and it was 47 inches around and the length was long to

Spudly, correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't a cantaloupe that big around be over 100lbs? If it wasn't weighed how did you figure the weight? I'd love to see a picture.

Yea Josh it would be at least 60 inches around and roughly 24 inches long. And not tear drop shaped. The 64.8 was 50 x 21 if I remember right. Sounds like he had a good one on but sometimes it ain't meant to be. Better luck next time.

I agree James, I hope you grow a world record, as long as it's 1 lb lighter than mine.

Where it gets tricky estimating a lopes weight is when a fruit is tear drop shaped. They won't weigh as heavy as the tape says they should. The 64.8 was a roundish block with hardly any tapper. Best of luck to all.

I have grown several with circ. bigger than 47 and all of them were around 30 pounds less than 84 pounds. Spudley got the perfect combo on his lope. To weigh 64+ pounds at 21 X 50 that means it was also perfect shape and thick walls.

When a fruit is stolen or damage a little bit of the growers dies. We have all suffered a loss of a great fruit by leaving it one more day. I post a sign by my garden that reads do not eat...danger of poisoning from insecticide.

Dan Westfall grew the 46.6 Westfall in a 8ft. X 8ft. Area. It was 26 inches long which is twice the height of a 5 gallon pail. Dan said he would look up the circumference which he has written down somewhere. I will try to post later. Dan washed all leaves every morning to get rid of dew and watered the stump 2 gallons a day. He fertilized once a week using a 10-45-16 fertilizer.
