I am interested in opinions on giant corn spacing. I usually give them plenty of room 12-24" between plants with rows 3 feet apart. (I get nice thick stalks, maybe less vulnerable to wind damage.) Would crowding them force them to grow taller? Would they have to be staked? Would closer spacing also be more favorable for taller sunflowers?

I've tried close plantings with giant corn and it stunts the growth considerably. I agree with you spacing of 12-24" per plant and 3 feet between rows. Sunflowers seem to have more problems with close spacing. They fall over much easier with close plantings, because they don't produce sturdy stems. 3 ft X 3 ft is best with sunflowers. If you have the room then 4 feet X 4 feet. Bott's Strain tends to be less bulky; so I usually do 2 ft X 2 ft with them.

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to wonder if anyone had any opinions on this.
