My daughter planted some sunflowers this year and wants to dry the seeds to plant next year. Should we remove all the seeds from the head and dry them on a screen or can we just hang the head in the basement and remove them next year when it is time to plant. Thanks

Both ways work...you need to knock of the flowers on the seeds..the hang them in a well ventilated area. Not sure if a basement fits this description..otherwise the head will mold

I take the out of the head and put them on a screen. That has worked well for me in the past. It takes the head a long time to dry out.

Is there an easy way to take them off the head? I've been doing it by hand and it takes forever. I was thinking a corn sheller but it would probably destroy the seed. Any ideas?

Just lateral thumb pressure with some good gloves and you can shuck one in a minute or so.use some thing like a small tarp to catch the seeds-its messy
