I'm in Southern hemisphere so in mid winter hear now. Wont be ideal time to sow corn or Sunflower seeds til September but I'm trying for some winter corn for fresh seed for my Spring summer grow. What types are people growing? Anyone growing any Tropical Maize? Sunflower seeds are hard to chase down in Australia most i'd like to track down a big head type.I've got a couple photos of my corn start in the diary section. Obviously its the worst time to try but i like a challenge.

I have tall growing this year, but have started to see what’s about for wide head sunflowers with the intention of perhaps getting some good genetics there for growing in another season

Got tall corn going here. Seeds came directly from Columbia prior to 1984. Montana race. Poor germination rate this year. Hopefully some will produce seed this year. Last year the taller plants did not tassel until very late in the season. Tallest was over 20 feet and still growing.

Im trying the buttler 26-8" sunflowers this year. Im growing them free standing no scaffolding so im hoping to get 16 feet from them. My personal best was 16-2" back in 1997
