Mehdi, there are a few original forms of field pumpkins.
There were many new varieties bred from it. To the size and weight. But the handle should be better and longer.
Field Pumpkin is probably a generic term for this variation.
Classic representatives are Connecticut Field Pumpkin ,An old standard variety. Is grown in the United States since colonial times or Howden(since 1970).
Varieties such as Phat Jack, Howden Field,Howden Biggie, Ghost Rider and Big Tom were bred later. They have the characteristics of .... dark orange; handle very dark green, compact vine habit and exceptionally large.
To your question ...
they belong to the same species. Both are cuc. pepo.
Only the size is different both.
Excuse me if I could not explain it better. :~)

A quick answer.
Field Pumpkins have hard green stems/handles.(considered true pumpkins)
Phat Jack is a type of Field Pumpkin, it has a hard green stem/handle.
Soft stems/handles are a characteristic of squash :)

Salut Mehdi
"The variety "Fieldpumpkin" there is not really.
The word consists of "Field" and "pumpkin".
There is so much with these characteristics!
A variety of Field Pumpkins is>>> Phat Jack.Comes from the variety "Connecticut Field" - since 1700!
There are hundreds of different Field Pumpkins, from the family cucur.Pepo
For the Halloween party you need a lot of pumpkins.
The perfect shape and flat bottom come in hand for making a jack'o lantern.
The varieties of Cucurbita Pepo is exceptionally suitable for this purpose. He was orange, light ribs and he grew very quickly. The company specialized in certain later on,
new varieties. The yield was better and improved properties. So also varieties with a longer stem.
Today you cross the properties for varieties with high weight. > Phat Jack <

Mehdi,sorry for my bad english.
