Cliff the mothers side to the 164 laub is three generations of 88.5 leland. Nice looking and colored. Crossed with the martins strain.

I was able to meet Ralph at the weighoff. Great guy. Turns out my niece and her husband are neighbors. Anyway, I'm sitting here drawing out six sites dedicated to field pumpkins right now, lol.

I'm just now starting to learn the characteristics of the field pumpkin lines that are out there. Anyone with insights, I welcome the discussion.

New to pumpkin growing (grew some small AG this year), but here is my question. Can field pumpkins be pollinated with AG
and qualify in a contest?

I would be careful about crossing a 247 into the mix. That is not a field pumpkin, at least not one that I have seen before. The stem on top like a gladiator or marrow mix. All the past WR field pumpkins were long and typically shaped, 209 Werner, 181 MacKinnon, 162 MacKinnon etc. Just a weird looking field pumpkin.

I have 81 wolf crosses that throw pumpkin just like the 247. I would be very cautious about calling something out on a public forum such as you have done Pumpkinman.

@Pumkin#1 -- The field pumpkins are cucurbita pepo and AG are cucurbitac maxima - so are different species and will not cross pollinate.

The 247 looks like a Gladiator type on steroids. I very much doubt there is any marrow in there. Marrows are long and skinny and don't have those types of ribs.

thank you Brad!!How anyone can look at that 247 and think marrow should not even be allowed on this site.

Donkin, since pumpkiman is questioning the 247, I'll gladly grow one here to prove him wrong.

247 looks 100% field pumpkin to me. Its got a wild shape-prob. from getting extreme growth. Carl I guess you ain't growing them unless your blowing them also applies to field pumpkin lol.

247 Graham(14)dmg is the 181 x 103. Fifty days old and still doing 3lbs a day. I'm not after those pretty little ones .lol The bigger and uglier they get...the more i like them:)))))

I've had several marrow crosses growing in my patch, not on purpose, but simply because my 106.5 seed from a few years ago will sometimes demonstrate marrow characteristics. The photo of the 247 does NOT look like marrow to me. With marrow, you're going to get dark green bumpy pock-marks. The 247 definitely looks like an outlier to the good side, and I'd grow it as well.

FWIW, the 164 Laub and the 247 Graham have at lot of similarities in appearance.
