I guess we better start getting together the VWO 2005 (don't know what the VWO is? Go to SeedOutlet.com and read about the Virtual Weighoff from 2004) so I will need your help.

Last year went very well so I would like to use the same format. That means we need to put together a contest pack of top notch seeds including 4 pumpkin and 2 squash seeds (and by "squash" i mean true green squash like the 874.5 Dieffenbaugher 2004).

I will also need prizes. Seeds are the most popular of course and the easiest to distribute. I prefer that all prizes be sent to me so I can guarantee that they will be distributed at seasons end. Please e-mail me at svrich@yahoo.com with any donations you can make. Please help out....it's not much of a contest without something to win.

Now what I would like on this thread is any offer by a grower of seeds to be grown in the contest. You will need be able to commit 100 of the seeds so keep that in mind before offering. Any unrequested ones will be returned. I will give this thread about a week to get all the offers and then I will post a separate thread where everyone can vote for their favorites. Top four pumpkins and top two squash make the cut.

Please post your offer below along with info about your seed like parentage and anything else you think makes it promising.

hey you

Greencastle, PA

I could contribute seeds from my 298 (963 Stucker x 1061.5 Ciliberto). It was 52% heavy and the largest in the state with no care for the last 6 weeks. The 1061.5 pollinator grew a 119 (reverse of the 298) which was 70% heavy. The 963 and 1061 have both grown 1000lb fruit. The grandparents are 935 Lloyd, 723 Bobier, and 801.5 Stelts. There are pics in my diary, both had pretty nice shape and color. I can also contribute prizes. Let me know if there's anything in particular you're looking for for prizes.

I think it would be fitting that the winner have her seed used, if she wants to put it up.

And if John 5150 is in agreement we will do the fishing trip or $150.00 again for the biggest fruit of any color

I think Boily needs to offer up his 298 Boytons from the sideviner that just went down on him. It's a sure way to get them into the hands of growers that will use them. Anybody else see the potential in a 845 Bobier x 1301.5 Eaton cross for the VWO?

Drew Papez apapez@sympatico.ca

I'll offer 100 of my 1058.8 Papez 04. 898 knauss x 805 pukos

Male pollinator produced the 1201 dmg dueck which went 14 percent heavy for its size. The 1058.8 was 2 percent heavy for its size. Good heavy cross here with lots of potential

Rich: I’d like to offer up my 873.5 Pugh seeds for the VWO. The cross is 845 Bobier x 963 Stucker. The 963 Stucker is 935 Lloyd x 801.5 Stelts and the 845 of course is 935 Lloyd x 865 Mettler…so the 873.5 is loaded with 935 Lloyd with 801.5 Stelts thrown in. Both the 845 and 963 plant which were the parents of the 873.5 plant were problem free and great plants. I think that the seed has great potential and would love to see it widely grown. If you use it as one of the VWO seeds I’ll throw in $100 for the person who grows the largest fruit from the 873.5 seed this year as well. I have plenty of them and they are ready to go, just give me the word!

I would like to offer the following:

488 Beachy 2004
F-551.5 Beachy 2003(845 x 935)
M-845 Bobier 2000

Last year I offered the 237, and it did very well for those that grew it. This year I am offering what I think is my best seed of the year. The 488 was grown in the genetics field and performed #5 out of about 150 genetics plants. Any of you statistics people know how great that is. The male pollinator grew the 1011 Beachy this year. Both pumpkins were over 10% heavy. Upon internal inspection both the 488 and the 1011 had neither internal tears nor blossom cones. This is very rare for me, let alone to cross those traits together. If you look at the 488 notice that its a second generation crossback. Very thick, very consistant, and hopefully very heavy is what I expect in this seed. Regadless of the decision here it will be in my competition patch in 2005.

471 Beachy 2004*
F-980 Razo 2003*
M-503 Beachy 2001*

THe 471 Beachy squash was 16% heavy, and the male pollinator was 15% heavy at 595 lbs. The 471 is very unique in that it is one of the very very few squash seeds to have a plant that produced a 1000 pounder in the background. As far as the cross structure of this seed, I compare it to the 723/845 Bobier seeds. Appears to be an F1 type cross on the outside, but looking closer is more F2 type.

I could offer many other seeds. Other seeds that are from bigger pumpkins. Other more well known genetics, but I believe these to be my top crosses of 2004.

The 142 grew a 195 est. before a mouse chewed thru it.The 685 Girgus is 974 Eaton X 723 Bobier.
3. 84 Hodge '04 1301.5 Eaton X 1367.5 Rose
