Should I put straw under my pumpkins?I live in western kentucky, and it can get pretty wet.I've got a couple that are pretty big.I will try to get weights, since I've read how to measure. This is my first crop of pumpkins. This variety said they can be 200+ lbs.

Hi tarah!

I would definately not put straw under your pumpkins. It will hold moisture and could harbor all find of fungus, bacteria, insects, and mice, all which could harm your 'kins! We usually put sand under ours, this helps them slide over the ground as they grow, and also acts as a barrier against slugs! Other growers will set them on styrafoam or wood to act as a barrier. This is usually done when pumkins are about basketball size. Good luck!
