great day for pumpkin growers in the southern new england area
after a couple days of heavy rains and a location shift we finally got the weigh off in
all fruit was picked friday in anticipation of a sat weigh off - but they had to wait until monday
1. scott palmer greene ri 1443lbs ( 1225 j x 919 w )
2. steve connolly sharron ma 1333lbs ( 1068 w x 1253 s )
3. steve sperry johnston ri 1312lbs ( 1068 w x 1253 s)
4. fred macari greene ri 1310.5lbs ( 1173 m x 1068 w )
5. joe jutras n.situate ri 1228lbs ( 1068 w x 842 e )
6. john nicholas warwick ri 1134.5lbs ( 1068 w x 851 d )
7. peter rondeau coventry ri 1102lbs ( 500 w x 846 j )
8. peter flores l compton ri 994.5lbs ( 914 c x 1225 j )
9. albina flores l compton ri 945 lbs ( 1225 j x 914 c )
10.don langevin norton ma 936 lbs ( 1104 h x 1097 b )

* scotts pumpkin was the third heaviest pumpkin ever weighed in a competition site
he also set a new new england record, new sngpg record, and should be the heaviest pure pumpkin in the gpc, along with a # 2 in the overall gpc standings
what a day, especially when yopu consider we also left a couple 1200 plus pounders on the deck late last week
by my calculations the sngpg will also be crowned with the best top ten average in the gpc with a average of 1,173.85 pounds

You guys did an amazing job this year!!!!

Congratulations to ALL the growers & especially their mentor!

I really wish this weigh-off could have come down over the weekend as originally planned. It would have been an honor to run that skid steer! Probably would have flattened those tires too!

Great job guys!

unreal....great job you guys. impressive is an understatement. it is more like absurd. you guys sure have proven that through team work, hard individual work, and some good growing conditions that N.E. is Giant Pumpkinville, USA (or more like the planet Earth). a fellow Illinois grower, Gene McMullen, went out to RI for the patch tour this summer and was really impressed by the commrodorie and teamwork you guys use to grow them so big. with the results posted by Dick, it is plain to see that it works. i will be picking Gene's brain at our next IGPGA meeting for anything he learned while visiting your patches. our club is still in the infancy stages, but in time, i can only hope that we can follow in the SNGPG footsteps at working together for the betterment of all. once again great job you guys.

I sent all the digital photos into BP.com. I'm sure they will be posted soon. The weigh-off was unreal. The Fork Trucks labored in the mud to bring each of the huge GIANTS up to the Scales. We probably would have blown out the backs of lifters. Luckly they had the 2 ton chain falls and tripods. Glad I made it, inspite of blowing out one of my trailer tires on the highway with the 1333 in tow.

scott palmer is or should be the poster child for anyone interested in becoming a giant pumpkin grower/

four years back during mid summer i was working in our patch when this guy came walking into the yard with his son in tow (scott and little scott jr)

we talked a few minutes about growing these giants and i gave him a quickie tour of the patch

scott was impressed and we agreed that he would return in the spring to learn a bit about this hobby (truth be told we get a lot of visitors and i never expected to see him again )

well, next spring there he was ready and willing to learn
and learn he did
he attended our club get togethers, got his wife shelly to help him during the days he was extra busy at work, asked questions and made the committment to do the work and purchase the needed equipment and supplies

his results speak for themselves

last year he grew a pb over 800 lbs
this year well, the third largerst pumpkin ever weighed in competition is not to bad

geezzzzzzz i hope he takes a year off and give us a chance again LOL

DICK

great job scott, scott jr and shelly
