Hey Sequoia - Suzy had this post : 8th Annual Elk Grove Community Harvest & Giant Pumpkin Festival. Saturday Oct. 5, 2002. Official weigh off site for the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth. For more information or to receive a registration form, call
(916) 685-3917.

I'm not too sure when Camby is - Can anyone fill us in here?
The only other weigh that I have heard about in the NW is the Puyallup fair on the 6th of Sept. I'm not too sure I'll have something to bring there but would sure like to meet other growers in the Great NW. Maybe see a patch or two on the trip. Let us know if you can.
Thanks - Ceis

Cool - Thanks Benface. Lemme know other details if/when you find out. Any prize money?

Just have to see if I can make it 'til then.
I'm having a little dificulty with consistent growth (due to the low temps) and some vine/stem issues (check the NGF & gallery)

BTW - what you got on the vine so far?
What plants are you growing?

As for myself I have 2 555 Neuvilles and 1 Michelac uows.
Grow 'em BIG! - Ceis

Your seeds should be just fine & good luck w/ your plants.
I have a couple going right now. They are both getting near the 60 inch circumference mark. My fingers are crossed & I am hoping they both make it to full term. Souvie's Island sounds like fun. - maybe see you there.

Thank You for posting NW weigh off details.

Looks like there will be some good events to attend.

I look forward to meeting some other growers and hearing some good stories.

Question - Is it inappropriate to lobby for seeds at such events? - Thanks Ceis

Ceis,
Oh yes it is a good idea to lobby for seeds. The weighoff in Canby looks to be a great event this year. A 'Pumpkin Drop' will be done from a helicopter to kick off harvest season as well. This will be a great event for the first year growers as well as the old sourdoughs. The prize distribution has been cut at the top to pay out down 30 places in the giant pumpkin class and no one will go home empty handed. This will be a great family event with pleanty to do and eat for both adults and children. I invite anyone with a big tomato, cabbage, watermelon, or those other veggies as well to join us in spending a day at the Hoffmans Dairy Garden. October 5th lets bring the fun back to growing giant veggies!
