I am trying to get Georgia and Southeastern growers to grow pumpkins and get together. I would like for you and Brian and a guy named Jared who called yesterday
to get enough serious growers to have an annual weigh off.

If the hole does not go into the cavity it will be fine. The reason for this is that someone could poke a hole and fill the pumkin with something heavy.

Even if your pumpkin rot's I hope you will come to the weigh off, I have done this thing for 3 years and it always amounts
to Mike and I weighing our pumpkins. If this year is not
better attended, I am just pissing in the wind and wasting my time and money.

Last year Wallace Simmons and Art Morgan attended the weigh off and made it a success. They are great guys and the reason we held the growers conference in North Georgia was to make it accessable to them. In the winter of 03 I plan to do it again.

I will have a get together at my place after the weigh off for growers to get together. In the past this has been the best part to me, sharing info and having a few whatever's.

I would appreciate it if Brian would post this to BigPumpkins.com.

I am copying other local growers on this email:

I would like to attend the weight off this year as well. I dont know if my two pumpkins are large enough? I am going to get some measurements this weekend. Post the address, times and any other important info about the Hall county weight off, most people just dont know where to go or anything about it. Does Georgia have an official state record and record system??? Just getting into this and having a blast reading and growing these interesting Pumpkins. Jared

August 24, 2002 at the Hall County Farmers Market in
Gainesville, Georgia

Pumpkins, Watermelons and whatever large vegtable
someone want's to weigh. The Farmers Market will be selling whatever products are available. The Hall County Extension Service is cooperating.

Generally, GPC rules are used to determine condition of Pumpkin or Watermelon. No distinction made between squash or Pumpkin.

My wife and I will host a picnic at our house for all
growers after the weigh off, Food and soft drinks provided, bring your own brand of adult refreshment. All growers and families welcome even if you have no fruit to weigh, several local growers have already weighed their fruit.

Entries must be at the Farmers Market by 10 am on the 24th to enter. Watermelons and other fruit will be weighed
starting at 10:30 am with pumpkins weighed about Noon.
No fee to enter, 1st place in both Melons and Pumpkins will win at least $100.00, hopefully more.

Overnight accomodations available in the area, information available upon request.

Please contact me privately as soon as possible if interested:

It looks as though I can take Destiny to this weigh-off She is holding up very well after three weeks. Not a Fatback but still a good fruit. I have one concern with the stem because it has almost disintegrated. My last tapeing she was at 366# est. I will go to the weigh-off. Anybody else?

Hello Pappy,
How are you storing Destiny until the weighoff? I wonder if any one has ever stored one in a big cooler like at a store. I picked some AG's one year on Oct. 5 and they were still in pretty good shape when I threw them away On Jan. 1. I had them out in front yard. A couple the pumpkins bottoms where starting to rot and many of the seeds had sprouted.

Had Stem rot on my # 2 pumpkin, had to cut it on Sunday. It is really round and a great color of orange. Around 100 lbs. I dont think I will bring it to the weigh-off, it has a hole in the top that I was treating and it looks like it goes into the body of the pumpkin. The other pumpkin still has green stem on it. I will bring it this Saturday to the weight off. It is around the same, about 100 lbs. Hope to see you guys there.

Doug, I just left mine under a shade tree. It's in great shape except the stem is looking bad. No holes so I will take it Sat. I'll see you and White Feathers then.

Guys...and Gurls....There's no better way to learn about the cultivation of these things than BS'ing with other growers. They are a friendly bunch and will do anything for each other. I highly recommend going to any event you can get to....pumpkin tot'n or pumpkinless. Bring one with a hole in it to get a weight...just cant enter it as a contest fruit...the more pumpkins that show up the better the crowd next year...contact will be made....tips and seed swaps are a sure thing. Comradory is the best part...finding out or confirming your almost the normal one is priceless (a sure thing if Pappy goes). Help get the weighoff going.......G

Looks like I'll be able to make it, provided the Georgia State Patrol doesn't see my out of state plates and pull me for transporting fruit across state lines(:^}> I won't be contending since mine are gearing up for the first of Oct. But like "G" said, should be a lot of fun anyway meeting my fellow southern growers. I think I'll probably bring my pollinationally challenged "Sidewinder" cull. Big and Beautiful! Of course I've been know to exaggerate a little. Ok, a lot! I'll see you guys there.
PS. I'll be the one with the pumpkin. Snake oil...

Leaving in a moment for the weight-off. This should be fun to see how little my pumpkins are with those big boys I keep reading and hearing about.
