Greetings to all Giant Pumpkin growers in the Mid-Atlantic states! My name is Karl Gercens and I'm pleased to announce that there is a NEW WEIGH OFF which will be held in southeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday October 11, 2008. This new event will be held at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. As one of the organizers of this event, I want to make sure that we have an extraordinary turn-out of exhibitors so that's why we're DOUBLING the pay-out that is offered at the other weigh-off here in Pennsylvania. No you don't have to live in PA. But there are several weigh-offs in Ohio.

Hi everyone, preparations are underway for a great event on Saturday October 11. I hope many of you are planing to attend to show off your pumpkins and enjoy the gardens! The pay-out is pretty big so hopefully that'll encourage some new exhibitors to attend!

I recently heard about this weigh off. which is great since its alot closer then altoona for me. I should be there but time will tell.

I just heard about the weigh- off at longwood , is it the same day as altoona? longwood is only about 50 minutes from my house , way way closer then the 3 hour and 45 min ride to altoona , if all goes well I should make it hopefully. please email me with more info at mike1280@verizon.net

WOW! We just had a great rainshower in southeastern PA last night! That moisture hit the spot for all the crops in the area. Did any of you hear of damage to any pumpkin vines? Hopefully there was no hail that accompanied the much needed rain!

For those of you not familar with Longwood Gardens please check out our wensite at www.LongwoodGardens.org We're a 1,000 acrea display garden just 9 miles from Wilmington , DE and abou 35 miles from Philadelphia. The Brandywine valley is a very culturally rich area filled with incredible horticulture and gardeners. I think that the giant pumpkin weigh-off will be a very special addition to the area's attractions!
