PNWGPG GROWER WINS I.P.A. CHAMPIONSHIP AND TRIP TO JAPAN.

Craig Sandvik, the winner of the 1ST annual Giant Pumpkin Contest at Central Market in Shoreline, Washington has been crowned the I.P.A. Champion for 2002. Craig’s 1,058-pound pumpkin was the largest specimen weighed among the five I.P.A sites in Japan, England, and the U.S.A. The I.P.A. champion has traditionally received a trip to Shodoshima, Japan the following year to be a guest of honor at The Japanese National Pumpkin Championships.

Congrats to Craig.

Ok stupid question... What is the IPA? and what do the letters stand for?

I'm assuming that this another association like the GPC but in an international capacity.
Thanks.

I went to the weigh off at Shoreline Washington. I had a great time. I met alot of really nice people. I plan on going back next year. I had a interesting time getting up there. All of the growers that were there treated me and my peanut like we were family Hopefully next year i can maybe triple my PB. I have some good pics. I will try to get them on here over the weekend.

Ok Thanks.

BTW -My favorite IPA (India Pale Ale) is from Bridgeport.

I bet Craig's is much different now that he is going the Japan. Stan you might have to save a big one for next year. Although you didn't do too bad this year if I might say.

Cheers.

I was saving the Emmons 658 for the Central Market initial weigh-off. However, it developed a small Dill Ring crack on September 20th. It will be shown in the Holland video this year. It's OTT was 360 1/2".
Next year, I ought to have one more plant in the ground to increase my odds. I have to overcome the "challenge" that I had three "big name" seeds grow "runts" for me this year. When you combine that with the fact that I had three other "big ones" split.....I really didn't have much to show at the weigh-offs.
