Riley Sprinsock won the junior division at The Santa Cruz County Fair with a 814 lb pumpkin. It was his personal best. The 814 was grown off the 1502 Wallace and crossed with the 845 Bobier. It was the largest pumpkin at the fair by over 400 pounds. The 1502 grew a nice large plant with the set at 19 feet out. It was still growing 10 to 20 pounds a day when it was cut for the fair. We need to get our seeds into the ground earlier so we can really see the pumpkin's potential all the way to the end. We were hoping for an earlier pollination but the squirrels kept biting into the small pumpkins.

Thank you everyone for all the nice messages! The 814 is the only pumpkin coming from our patch this year. Our 1689 Jutras had a great start on a pumpkin but aborted at 150lbs. Our 1233.5 Reiss aborted too and the 845 Bobier split at about a month out. We'll be checking our soil soon to see how balanced it is...but I think it was our turn to get just one. thanks again...Kristine and Riley
