The official fair results. Fair results come from a livestock scale built 100 years ago. Pumpkins are weighed with pallet, then someone sizes up each skid based on judgement and deducts weight. As long as there is enough difference in weight between the pumpkins, close enough is good enough.

Nothing has changed! LOL

First I agree with Alex's post. I have discussed the scale issue and they told me it is within 5 pounds. Their objecive is the placement and do not really care about the weight. They don't have funds to make better unless we all complain.

You can blame me for this, they always had 4-H kids take them off the trucks to be weighed until I started bringing them over 700 lbs and suggested that kids will get hurt. When the pumpkins got over 800 they started using skid loaders. The last few years I pre weigh the pumpkin or the skid and use those numbers not the St Fair #.

That's just the way some places are. Our state fair is the same way. They don't have always have a fork lift around to unload/load the pumpkins. They have 2-3 for the whole fair, and you have to track one down to use it. They weigh the larger pumpkins on their pallets on an old livestock scale. They just don't get it. Maybe one day they will but I'm not holding my breath.

Congrats to Bill, Dean and all the others.

Giant pumpkins are always impressive, but I was shocked how big those things were, by August.

There must have been some insane daily gains to get those weights in such a short time for the fair.
