I've been getting a few questions... maybe someone needs to speak up...

Q: Do I have to weigh my fruit in the state I grew it in?

A: No. As long as it's a sanctioned weighoff, you may take it to any one you want (unless you have to pre register and/or pay entry fee early [like Iowa State Fair, for ex])

Q: What if I have a record breaker?

A: If you weigh a new state or world record, it will be reported.

Q: Do I have to be a member of your club to come to your weighoff?

A: Most of the time, no. A few host clubs or the sites have restrictions but usually anyone may take an entry anywhere.

Q: Is there an entry fee?

A: Depends on the weighoff. Some do, usually it gets you a parking pass or some sponsor thing like a teeshirt.

Q: Why is there an entry fee?

A: Usually this is to help pay for site rental fee, scale certification, forklift rental, etc.

Q: Where and when are the weighoffs?

A: Check http://greatpumpkincommonwealth.com/territory.php and click on the map for your area. It will bring up a list of where and when the weighoffs in that area are.

Q: Do I have to take my pumpkin to a weighoff to get it recognized?

A: No, but taking it to a weighoff makes it easier to be recognized... plus you get to meet a lot of other growers, which is priceless!

Forgot...

Q: May I enter more than one fruit?

A: One pumpkin per grower, and if there is a squash category, one squash per grower (in that case two total)
There is also a limit of two per team, family, or same address.

Q: I grew four pumpkins and brought them all, can I get them weighed anyway?

A: That is up to the weighoff. Most of the time it will be no. Best bet is to contact the club or organizers in advance and ask first.

Q: I entered my pumpkin at YYY last week, may I enter it in this weekend's weighoff?

A: Almost always, no. One weigh per fruit is official. It may only be entered once for prize $.

Most weigh offs will let you weigh more than one fruit, but before they start you have to select one as your official fruit, the others will be weighed as exhibition. This lets you get official weights on all your fruits.

At some weigh offs, anyone is welcome, but you are required to be a member of the pumpkin group which is hosting the weigh off. In actuality, the entrance fee is annual dues to become a member of that group since they organized the event and raised much or all of the prize money.
