258.0# SQUASH, Gary Grande aka the Wiz Wiz also took home the Howard Dill Award
Long Gourd, 72.0" Gary Grande Tall Sunflower, 117.5" Jim Grande
We were very glad to have some guests, and pictures soon. Other than a delay caused by a forklift tire flat, it was a good time.
Thank you Biz, for the donation of your 'kin for the pumpkin drop!

We have had a couple of bad growing years here, Pap. We were very glad to have someone come and show. Hopefully 2012 will be a little kinder to everyone in general, growing in'extreme drought' conditions is a little tough.
Actually we were on 'punkin time' as the forklift got a flat tire... once that was fixed we did the deed. Wiz and Biz are two great growers, it was wonderful to meet them and have them visit.

So then the answer is 'yes' the weighoff would have been cancelled again if it were not for the Grande boyz driving all the way there.
I'd say no more seed auctions to raise prize money for a weighoff that is a no go. Prize money should have been doubled since the 2010 weighoff got cancelled last minute and you raised alot of money via the seed auction specifically for that cancelled weighoff.
Old news, I know that...but still not right.

Actually I agree with you.
The seed auctions are numerous, and there should be other ways to raise funds. Its getting to the point where trying to get seeds and a night is getting more and more daunting; and the generousity of growers being besieged for seeds to be sold is getting to a point where some growers are no longer giving out seeds.
There has to be a different way before auctions overlap the growing season (from fall to spring).
In the meantime with the extreme weather across the country, the number of pumpkins never making it to the scale because of that; we're just glad that we were able to hold a weighoff this year. We will be hopeful that 2012 will be better all over the country.
If you have nothing to weigh, then it's not a weighoff.

A huge pat on the back for Biz and Wiz...what gracious growers to make such a long trip to a struggling weigh-off. We should all be so kind!
